Hearing my client’s stories about their relationship and how they met is one of my favorite parts of being their photographer. The smiles on their faces at their Avalon Engagement Session, as they tell me the story of how their paths crossed and how life brought them together, is priceless. Everyone’s story is unique and Keri and Joe were no different. After an encounter at the gym where Joe was talking on the phone with his air pods in and clarifying to Keri, “Oh I’m on the phone, not talking to myself”, who was working out next to him. Keri nodded and that was it.
After a month of running into each other at the gym consistently, they struck up a real conversation and went on a date- both dishing their worst Tinder date stories. If you know Keri and Joe, you know how much these two can TALK (which I adore about them). They didn’t miss a beat with one another and after a month of dating, Keri moved in with Joe, they got a puppy together, and the rest- as they say- was history!
Keri and Joe chose to have their engagement shoot in Avalon, located on 7-mile island, NJ. They knew this would be the perfect place for their engagement session since this was the exact place Joe proposed to Keri, surrounded by their families. They’ll also say “I do” here on their June 2022 wedding day- an easy decision since Avalon has been such a summer staple of their lives for years!
Choosing where to have your engagement shoot should be something personal to your relationship as a couple. As relationships bloom, couples often establish their favorite restaurant, their favorite activities to do together, and their go-to places to hang out or vacation. This is exactly how Keri and Joe chose their location. Avalon is their favorite place to spend their summers- creating a meaningful backdrop for their engagement shoot and eventually their wedding day.
When choosing your location, I always suggest choosing somewhere that has a story, a connection to you both, a timeless setting that will always make you smile when you look at the pictures. Somewhere that transports you to your favorite place together, your best vacation, or the time and place you first met. This way your pictures will be timeless and sentimental to you both, full of stories and memories frozen in time ready for wherever your next chapter takes you.
If you need help choosing a location, chat with your photographer about what they recommend to keep it personal and timeless to the both of you. Scouting locations, like this Avalon Engagement Session, is a fun part of the photography process, and I am always happy to help my couples find their perfect spot!
