‘We don’t want our wedding to be a ‘big show.’ We want it to be fun, a celebration of our love and the start of our life together,” said Mary as she gave me the details about her and Cody’s wedding plans. Over the past year, I hear this more and more and it fills me with so much joy when I know the happy couple is making their day about them and the love they have for each other. Trying to put on a show and please everyone adds to the unnecessary stress of what should be one of the best days of your life! Mary and Cody said ‘I do,’ at St. Magdalen Roman Catholic Church with their close friends and family as they enjoyed their intimate Church Wedding with a Backyard Reception
Once again, like many others, this couple had to re-think their day due to Covid-19 and they ultimately decided a small backyard wedding would be perfect. Their best friends helped with the details- Cody’s mom hosted the wedding in her backyard where they brought in a dance floor, while Mary’s brother had a friend who offered to DJ. Mary & Cody were able to create the ideal set up- all made possible by the help from their family and friends. The day was everything they envisioned.
Mary and Cody were able to have a stress-free day, filled with love and a sense of togetherness as every aspect of their wedding had been put together by those closest to them. Getting to watch three generations of love grace the dance floor at once was such a powerful moment to witness and capture for Mary & Cody. Their small and intimate wedding meant that no detail or moment went unnoticed.
When photographing weddings, I’m always watching and anticipating the emotions that unfold. Call it the empath in me but finding and photographing these moments my couples will cherish forever is why I do what I do. The legacy moments. The ones that will mean more and more to them as time goes on. Gorgeous portraits are always guaranteed- those special in-between moments are the ones I love to bring to the table.
